Fly fishing from a shell

This is VIVA #2 recreational shell on Upper Payette Lake. Top picture shows stability of the shell when oars are immobilized, allowing rower to fish. Most fishing is from seated position. I stand mostly when looking for fish, or when I need a little extra casting distance. Though relatively stabile, you can't forget that you are standing up in a boat. If you do forget the cold water will remind you. I have yet to forget.
The pedestal I built is fixed to the sliding seat rail and holds the oars, handles together and immobile, with the spoon blades flat in the water, about 3" under the surface. The resistance of the blades slows the rolling action of the shell. The speed of a recreational rowing shell allows you to cover a lot water. This is a great way to get your exercise and an afternoon fishing trip at the same time.
